Women Status In India

    


In the past few decades, there has been drastic changes in the status of women throughout the world.
Now, let’s discuss the status of the women of India in particular. There has been notable changes in the status of the women before and after the Independence of India.
Before Independence, there was the male dominating society where there was discrimination against the girls before and after their birth. The girls were treated as the liability or burden on their families. Many parents decided to abort their girl child. Unfortunately, if a girl child born to them than she was deprived of proper food and education in respect to the boy child in their families. If parents were little broadminded then they send their daughters to the school, but as soon as they found matches for their daughters, they married them and don’t wait for them to complete their studies. This usually happened as the hefty dowry demanded by the bridegroom's family. Dowry is calculated on the prospective of bridegroom's societal status and education, that obviously would be much lower at an early age. After marriage, women were forced to stay at home to do all household work and rear the children. Many times married women had to face the oppressive behavior of their husbands and in laws. In worst cases, brides were burnt or killed as they were unable to get the dowry as demanded by their in laws.
