Superstitions in India

Superstitions are the irrational beliefs that are built up because of ignorance of fear of unexpected tragedy. India is the land of diverse religions and cultures and thus there are lots of common as well as separate superstitious beliefs related to each one of them.
There are few examples of superstitious beliefs that are as follows:

Many people stop when they see a black cat crossing their path. It is believed that this is likely to bring failure to the job of the individual who is going to cross the road after it first being crossed by the black cat. There is another superstition related to the howling of the dog during the midnight hours that it signals the death of the near and dear one in the family.
