CHANAKYA NITISHASTRA – CHAPTER EIGHT

1. Wealth is desired by lower class men, wealth, & respect by middle class men whereas noble man’s true wealth is honor.

2. Lamp burns to take away the darkness and becomes itself dark. In the same way, our diet whether it is satvic, rajasic and tamasic can decide the nature of our thoughts.

3. Wise men disperse their wealth to needy people not to the others. Clouds give Rainwater that is sweet. The rainwater facilitates the growth of the movable and immovable products and then returns to the ocean.

4. The intelligent man thinks that the non- vegetarian are lower than that of the thousand lower class people. Indeed there is no one is as lowest as the non –vegetarian.

5. When one rub oil on its body, attended the funeral, had sexual intercourse or shave is considered as beast. Unless and until taken a bath.

6. Indigestion’s best medicine is water, if it is taken after the digestion of the food. When water is taken as soon as the food is eaten, it acts as
the poison.

7. knowledge is waste when it is not put into the practice, a person is lost due to lack of knowledge; an army cannot win without a commander; and a woman is lost without a husband.

8. A man who encounter any or all of the three following situations such as when wife died in old age, money goes in the hands of the relatives, dependency for food on others are considered as unfortunate.

9. There is requirement of chanting Vedas along with the sacrifices through the medium of the fire for the plentiful gifts. Perfection can only be achieved through the devotion and the devotion is basis of all success.

10. There is no penance equivalent to balanced mind; no happiness equivalent to contentment, no disease is equivalent to cleverness and no virtue is equivalent to mercy.

11. Anger is considered as the personification of Yama, greediness can lead to the hell, knowledge is considered as the personification of thousand cows (Kamdhenu).
